Hairstylists! Tackle Common Health Issues!

When you first start out in the industry, you are so excited! You love being creative. You love your clients and you aren't thinking about where you will be 20 years from now. But there are health risks associated with our profession two of them are as follows:

  • Chemical exposure
Hairdressers are exposed to chemicals in hair care products, cleaning products, and aerosols. Some of these chemicals can cause cancer, and can also lead to skin and respiratory disorders.
  • Repetitive motion injuries
  • Hairdressers often perform repetitive tasks, stand for long periods, and work in awkward postures. These factors can lead to musculoskeletal disorders, such as arthritis and upper limb disorders.
But there are things that you can do to improve your occupational health, which will help you to feel better outside the salon.

1) Stretching for body pain. We hold our bodies in such unusual positions for long periods of time and this can cause things like neck and lower back pain. You can find amazing stretching routines for free on YouTube.

2) I use a natural pain relief option, as opposed to popping OTC pain meds. It's an oil that you rub directly on your neck, back, hands. Anywhere that you have pain. It draws the energy to that area and relaxes the muscles. It feels amazing and smells amazing!

3) For chemical exposure I detox my body. But rather than doing one big detox occasionally, I drink a cleansing tea every day. Green tea is amazing because it has antioxidants, so I have found a green tea that contains 4 x's the amount of antioxidants than traditional green tea. I love that it removes the toxins and helps with mental clarity, also.

These are just a few simple methods that have helped me to be a healthy Hairstylist after 20 years of being in the industry. They are inexpensive and effective. So why wait? Start improving your occupational health today!
