The Skinny on Stevia and Sweeteners

There are so many decisions to be made when it comes to sweeteners. The walls and walls of sweeteners at the grocery store can be overwhelming. Do you use sugar, maple syrup, honey, powder stevia, liquid stevia, coconut sugar? All of us want to maintain our health, while satisfying our sweet tooth.

What started this journey with sweeteners was when my mother was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. She loved sweet things! But when she went into the hospital with a glucose reading of 350 it was clear there needed to be a change.

Just because someone is diagnosed with diabetes doesn't mean that they instantly give up all sweets and carbs. That's the hardest thing in the world to quit! If it wasn't, the soda companies would be out of business. But we knew that there needed to be a change.

As I researched all of the different types of sugar alternatives I noticed they all had side effects. Most caused digestive issues and headaches. They were also chemically processed, which changes the structure of the sweeteners derived from natural substances. Some still contained sugar. This is when SunnyDew stevia from Sunrider International became a staple in our home.

SunnyDew is a potent blend of stevia leaf extract and chrysanthemum flower. The indigenous peoples of South America have used stevia leaves for centuries in their medicines and teas. Stevia is a remarkable herb that can help to maintain blood sugar levels in healthy people.

The stevia in SunnyDew undergoes a unique puriying and concentration process that preserves the natural structure found in its whole food form. No chemical reaction is used to process this stevia!  This sweetener will not spike glucose levels. It only contains two ingredients (stevia leaf extract and chrysanthemum flower) so you don't have to worry about what additives are in there to create this sweetener.

SunnyDew is great to add to teas, smoothies, pancakes, etc to add sweeteness and flavor. Below is my favorite milkshake recipe that tastes exactly like a REAL milkshake. It's been approved by my mother :)
